ABOUT

Founded in 2012 by a group of friends passionate about lyrical singing, under the initiative of Hery Andrianirina, the ICanto vocal ensemble has become an essential reference in classical music in Madagascar. Led by Fitah Rasendrahasina, the group remains faithful to the fundamental values of lyrical art while constantly pursuing musical excellence.
ICanto promotes classical music, particularly choral singing, by revisiting sounds and repertoires to make this art form more accessible to the general public.
Since its creation, ICanto aims not only to bring the Malagasy audience closer to lyrical music but also to showcase the richness of Malagasy musical heritage beyond its borders. This is evidenced by the rearrangements of traditional pieces such as “Iny hono izy Ravorona” and “Mandihiza Rahitsikitsika,” shared on international platforms.
“More Than A Choir”
reflects its desire to contribute to personal development within a committed and supportive community.

A prestigious invitation to represent Madagascar on the international stage
In 2020, ICanto received the exceptional invitation to participate in the 39th edition of the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music in Hajnówka, Poland.
This festival, which brings together prestigious choirs from around the world, provided us with the opportunity to share our passion for choral singing and our unique repertoire, including traditional Malagasy pieces.
Unfortunately, due to the exceptional circumstances at the time, we were unable to honor this invitation. However, this international recognition strengthens our determination to continue promoting Malagasy choral music and to participate in other events of this scale in the future.
